The President of Texas A&M University resigned.
Texas A&M University president Katherine Banks resigned after a Black journalist's hiring at the college's College Station campus was criticized for her past work promoting diversity. Banks said the negative press had become a distraction at the 70,000-student campus. The departure followed weeks of turmoil at Texas A&M, which welcomed professor Kathleen McElroy to revive the school's journalism department. Banks took responsibility for the "flawed hiring process" and said McElroy was a victim of "anti-woke" hysteria and outside interference in the faculty hiring process. Banks' resignation comes as Republican lawmakers across the U.S. are targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs on college campuses, including Texas, where Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill dismantling program offices at public colleges. Read more.
